RiD Systems released the first commercially successful tablet computer, the GRiDPad in 1989

The GRID Palm PAD Modell 2350 released 3 years later in 1992

GRiD itself was pushing its new PalmPad, a very small, almost wearable, DOS-based pen machine whose strongest suit was a ruggedized and weather-proofed case.

SunDisk (later the name was changed to SanDisk) in 1988 to develop new “system Flash” architecture combining embedded controller, firmware and flash memory to emulate disk storage. The company filed the first two MLC (Multi-level-cell) flash patents.
